Having bilingual-parallel translations of ancient works available in the archive is a wonderful gift for which I am, personally, grateful. However, a problem has occurred in the scanning of this particular text, which I hope will be corrected. In brief: The scanning procedure used to digitalize the hard copy of this bilingual-parallel text, has converted it to a NON-PARALLEL bilingual text. (See full description below.)
Unfortunately, the same problem appears in OVER HALF of the Greek and Latin texts with parallel English translations that I’ve encountered in the archive thus far. The problem can be avoided/corrected by simply adding a blank page before or after the cover page or the title page. Hopefully, you will modify the procedure you use for scanning bilingual--parallel texts, so that the error doesn’t occur in the future.
When I reported the problem, Internet Archive staff informed me that their policy is “to not alter items created by account holders EXCEPT AT THE REQUEST OF THE UPLOADER.” (emphasis mine). Their statement seems to imply that they are willing to correct texts already in the archive IF THE UPLOADER REQUESTS IT, so I ask the uploader of this document to make that request.
Full Description of the Problem
Pages of the original copy of this book were sequenced so that, when the book was laid flat (i.e., opened so that two pages were visible, SIMULTANEOUSLY), text in the original language of the work (e.g., Greek, Latin, etc.) appeared on the left-hand page and a translation of the text in a second language appeared on the right-hand page. In this digital copy, the text in the work’s original language, which initially appeared on the left-hand page, has been shifted to the right-hand page, and the (previously parallel) translation, now appears on the back side of that page, so one must flip the page to view it. In other words, the page containing text in the original language and the page containing text in a second language are no longer visible SIMULTANEOUSLY, thus are no longer parallel.
I thank the uploader for the text and hope the page alignment problem can be corrected in the near future.
